SIFOTL

Hi, my name is Minna and I’m an alone-in-front-of-tv-laugher. My sister can’t understand it. When she’s at the computer and hears me laughing, alone in my room, she thinks — or is convinced — I’ve gone bonkers.

I, however, don’t see any difference between social and solitary tv laughing. The programme is no less funny (or more so) when watched alone. Thus, I shouldn’t feel the need to stifle my bursts of laughter just because I happen to be alone.

My preferred SIFOTL programmes are Coupling and Scrubs. They’re hilarious.

Little shopping of horrors

Yesterday I bought the M. Night Shyamalan DVD box which includes Sixth Sense, the Signs, and Unbreakable. Today I found the uncut Stand (!!!!!!!!) at a bookstore while I went to buy Dan Brown’s Angels and Demons (it was on sale). Alas, both the books are in bad shape (the saleswoman helped me to get the book from the top shelf and said “I’ll get the one on the back so it’ll be in better shape”. Maybe it is better, but it has a very badly bent corner on the back. Oh well. I don’t care about the D. Brown book but the bad shape of The Stand bums me a bit (the front leaf is wrinkled and there’s a little tear on the back). However, it was a miracle I found it — the last one in stock — so I’m just glad I did.

Tomorrow I think I’ll go get my credit card (or it’s just plastic, no credit) so I can go a) clothes shopping and b) VHS + DVD-RW shopping.

Today I’ve had the most persistent headache. I popped a pill (a mild one, people say it’s just placebo) ages ago but it’s still thumping in my head. I feel like I should drill a hole on my temples. I’ve been reading grammar “all day”, I have a little exam tomorrow. Interestingly, I’ve even learnt something new.

A walk down the rocky memory lane

I thought of writing about this and then decided against it, but what the heck. I haven’t written about anything for a while anyway.

Just to let you know, this story has a happy ending. Sort of.

10-year anniversary

10 years ago, give or take, on January 21st we moved to this house. We used to live in a 2 bedroom (+ 1 study) apartment but it got too small for us after my sister was born and grown to be old enough to need an own room. For a while we slept in the same room (oh horror) but I got a study made in a big walk-in closet where I could do my homework in peace and only had to sleep in the shared room. Sharing a room with a little sister wasn’t nice, especially when she was sick, threw up on the carpet and got to sleep in my parents’ bedroom while I had to stay in the smelly bedroom.

Memories…

The winter when we moved was a very snowy one, like this one (at least amount-wise). That Monday, 23rd, I had to travel by bus to school for the first time. It was nice, though, that I got to end my 6th grade in my old school even though we’d moved out of the city. That Monday, I happened to be at the bus stop at the same time with my English teacher, it was windy and snow flurries everywhere. Then she taught me the word “blizzard”.

I got to have the room downstairs. It used to be a garage and then it was made into a storage and finally into a bedroom. It has a door that leads outside — it’s hardly ever used, only to bring heavy stuff in because there’s the strip for the garage, and once our dog (the previous one) ran out during a sleep-over when my friend was sitting on the doorstep — and a very own toilet. And it’s huge. It’s going to be a shame to move into my own apartment that’s going to be the same size as my room now but with toilet, kitchen and everything crammed in the same space.

That year I got to keep a birthday party because we finally had enough space (I had had a great party once in our old home, too). I invited my whole class except the only boy. Thanks to that party, I had surprise visitors several years afterwards when we all had went our own ways, each to a different high school (or vocational school).

I also got a real piano at last. In the apartment I had an electric piano which didn’t do good to my touch and finger strength but at least I could play with earphones on. With a real piano it’s somewhat difficult to play without anyone hearing. (With the electric piano I could also open the window, crank the volume up, put one of the demo songs on, and make our downstairs’ neighbours green with envy  I’m sure they didn’t even hear it…)

Memories… I always wonder how people can remember all kinds of interesting little things. Apparently I do too, only they’re the odd ones that don’t really matter much I guess.

Breathing is important

I remember when I was still able to breathe.

I could try out which was my dominant nostril [Via: Eric], I didn’t have to suck in all the germs from human-created puddles on the ground that just make the flu worse, I didn’t have to sound like a clogged pipe, I didn’t have to feel like I was sucking the fluid to my ears every time I drink something (I bet coffee in ears wouldn’t feel nice), and I could do more on the computer because I didn’t have to keep wiping my nose all the time.

Pseudo-pissed-off

I have an annoying flu. My eyes watered while I was trying not to cough all the time during the first lecture today. I have to blow my nose all the time and it hurts. I forgot my glasses. I’ll get home around 20:30 today and I have eaten only a banana (and a sweet pastry). However, I brought “birthday treats” to the project people (but still I’m going home with 6 apple pastries) and I’m off to Culture semiotics and translation. Whee.

Now I have to go to get a good seat in the front-ish row.

Happy birthday to me

Yeah, that’s right. 23 years ago this puny (2,3 kg) little (45 cm) thing was born. I’m not puny anymore though, nor little. More precisely, I was born at 13:23 which makes me remember the year of an important peace (“The peace of Nut island” ) in Finland — nifty, isn’t it?

I was supposed to be born on Jan 24th (era of Aquarius) but luckily I wasn’t, because I like being Capricorn. Even tests show I’m destined to be a Capricorn: What Should Your Zodiac Sign Be?

“their nit-picking ways can infuriate others” Noooooo, really?

When the blogger is away…

… the spammers dance on the table

I don’t know if this was just bad luck, or the spammer at 38.119.107.77 read my site enough to see I was away. Oddly, Spam Karma claims the IP is already in the database but still the comment slipped through. And oddly, they hadn’t even increased the SK’s comments approved number. Oh well.

I was at my grandparents. Went there yesterday straight from work and stayed the night. I went to bed insanely early, I started reading at around 21:00 and stopped at 22:15 and started sleeping. What’s wrong with me? I did get up at 1:00 peppy as a poodle and then woke up every once in a while until I got enough of it and got up at 8:40.

My grandma and I went to some museums, for example the birth home of Jean Sibelius where there was a very eager and friendly guide. We were there before opening and also we were the only ones so he told some stories and things while we walked through the vast space of 4 rooms :) We got to request music at the beginning of our tour as “there is always music playing here”. After that we went to the art museum to see some Vietnamese art. I had a gift certificate to spend from Xmas and I found a pair of trousers. I also bought Dan Brown’s Digital Fortress even though I don’t know what it’s like. At least I’ll have some paperback to read that I haven’t read before. Besides, it’s computer stuff, it has to be good.

I spilled the beans about my secret to grandma but she promised she won’t tell anyone. As I’ve said, I’m very bad at keeping my own secrets.

Friendly banana

My eyes are closing… I woke up around 8:30/9:00 to be in time to sign into a computer class (and I got in! Hurraah) , yesterday I was woken up at 7:45 by a plumber drilling (or something) right behind the wall where my bed+head is. Today (that’d be Thursday) I’m going to see Grudge with my sister, right after work above all. Guess who’ll be knackered.

Today — I mean yesterday, Wed — we took Amadeus to the vet to get his 2nd vaccinations and a microchip. I wrote all about it on Ami’s site.

Yesterday, I mean Tuesday, I got a new roommate at work. I’m glad the previous went (got his dissertation done, I guess) because I probably would’ve freaked out at the next “would you pleeeease close the door if you leave” (of course, I wouldn’t have, but I need to say I would). This new roommate of mine speaks English. Uh oh. Me and English is like a mouth and a hot potato. Anyway, I don’t know much about her yet. Today, I mean Wednesday, she got a new computer (a fancy black one, lucky her). The computer guy promised I’d be getting mine soon.

Oh yeah, I’m getting a new computer at work. The guys, or one of them, had quite a list of features they need (tons of Ghz, tons of Gb, CD/DVD burner (eh, what are you planning to do? Rip movies?), optical/wireless mouse, huge flat screen………), and I would just like some extra memory and a bit faster computer (now I have 900 Mhz, and probably 256 or 512 Mb memory, at work that is) — it’s not like we’re getting to keep the machines. Boys and toys, right? :)
I did request to get both Windows and Linux installed because the computer guy specifically asked (good thing he asked, I want Linux too). But that’s it.

Tod… ok ok, yesterday I got a banana. Not any regular banana but a friendly banana. Thanks S., I owe you a banana.

Secret’s burning in my back pocket

… even though I’m wearing a skirt and it doesn’t even have pockets.

I have something to tell you (I’ve told 2 people already, I’m bad at keeping my own secrets!!) but I’m not going to until it’s confirmed and finished and ready for the whole world to see. Or something like that.

I’m so excited about it!

Agh, *slaps hands over mouth* (to keep me from typing)

How funny would it be if it never was confirmed nor finished?
