Everything changes but me
Tom commented that he doesn’t like captcha images. Well, neither do I, but I hate spam more. Encouraged by the small amounts of spam going to Hades, I decided to remove the plugin. For the time being. Also, with the help of Paged Comment Editing and a little spam leftovers hack, spam management is much easier.
I tested out the Image Headlines plugin but it created such insane amounts of png files that I returned back to the trusty old TitleImages2. It may not have the ability to wrap too long lines (and I shouldn’t even write that long titles), but it’s simple and effective.
(Oh yes, the title is a reference to the oldie and goodie Take That song Everything Changes. I’m a fan forever, and not afraid to tell.)
I was just checking out the image headlines plugin today – but didn’t try implementing it.
How does the title images one work. He no longer provides instruction since he says it was on his old lost site but we can use it if we figure it out.
Is the plugin available at the author’s site or would you like me to send it?
You can configure the plugin from a link in the Plugins page. It’s pretty straight forward. In the templates you replace the the_title() functions (the ones that would show the title on your page, not the ones that are written in title attributes or something) with image_title() and that should be it.
Oh and by the way, I had to fill into two sets of numbers to get my post actually posted, I allmost gave up.
You might find this usefull, its about MT but applys a lot to wordpress too.
Just another question :), why are the titles served as images?
Do you have better ideas for the titles? It’s just a nice plugin. Or why do you ask?
Thanks for the heads up, I was going to use the Image Headlines plugin but instead I shall check out the one you linked to
WordPress 1.5 has been wonderful for dealing with spam, I added in a couple of standard spam words into the auto kill section, words which my normal readers wouldn’t use in comments, and haven’t had any issues since.
Mike, the title plugin may not be available anymore for download. Let me know, and I can send the zip to you.
I’m absolutely loving my current anti-spam arsenal. Spam Karma won’t delete any spam, so if there is a so-called false positive, I can bring it back from the underworld. Then again, for the while I allowed SK to send all the deleted spam on digests, there weren’t any mistakes. That’s why I set SK to just delete everything and notify me of nothing.
The spam that is kept isn’t shown on my site, and I can manage it with the help of that Paged comments edit.
I’ve never dared to count on spam words alone, but I’ve heard good things about WP1.5’s spam capabilities.
Oh I see your using a custom font, then perhaps the oh so sexy sFIR
Heres an overview of the whole thing, well worth reading even if you dont plan on using it.
Yup, I’ve heard of sIFR. Thanks for the link though. I won’t be using it here, but it’s good to know — for future reference maybe.
