Bugs bug me a lot
Bug #1: I’m having a nasty cold. Throat hurts a lot a lot and I cough all the time. My nose runs (catch it!) too, but that’s a given. All that really makes it difficult to sleep even the few pathetic hours I get per night.
Bug #2: Email spam is getting more difficult to spot. Although the topics are often odd, some of them are vague enough not to ring alarm bells. Pro: the email address where I get most/all of the spam is going down soon. Con: I’ll have to give my new address to a lot of places… and have to remember what those places are…
Bug #3: Surprisingly, there were Trojans on Theme XP‘s installer files. I’m not saying I know that’s a trusted source, but it surprising anyway.
Seems like everyone is sick these day. I, myself is sick as well – same thing as you (and sometimes a fever).
Wow, what happened when I was away from the internet? Guess spammers get smarter and smarter sigh. you have a new e-mail address?
Ah, that’s oddly interesting. Better clean that up off your desktop or find a more reliable source and use that instead
#1 : Wow, you too? That’s weird, I was about to go and write almost exactly the same thing for TripleB, as after a number of days I’m still very much the worse for wear. In fact, I now have a fully fledged cold going on…not nice.
#2 : I find GMail’s spam filter to be really impressive, that’s why I forwarded all my email addys there to make life easier.
#3 : I don’t think I’ve ever used ThemeXP before, but I can imagine that. Trojans and other such crap get everywhere these days.
Oh, you caught cold too… One of my friends phoned me this morning and I was pretty surprised when I found that I had no voice at all…
Hope you get better.
Vera, I do have a new email but I’m planning on using it for internet stuff (mandatory email for registerings etc.). The email you’ve been using (to this domain) works like before. I don’t know if I have fever because I refuse to measure my temperature. If I did, and I had fever, that would mean I was officially sick, and I can’t be sick.
Mike, sorry about that, hope you get well soon. I’m currently tormented by a pretty bad sore throat.
Seppo, hi I’ve been croaking through these last few days (and this morning I noticed that singing is a no-go and a no-no). On Thursday I’ll be giving a Trados “lesson” to some translators so I hope my voice gets stronger by then.
Hope we all get better!
Well, I’m healthy. Get well soon.
Oh, and don’t use themexp – use windowblinds or objectdesktop – no trojans there (that I’m aware of).
Oh, and “bugs bug you”, I was expecting a whole rant about bugs, like the insect-y kind, cuz then I could have ranted all day about how the only thing I can’t stand are bugs, they gross me out.
If there’s such a thing as reincarnation, and I’ve been a bad girl, you know damned well that they’ll send me back as a cockroach or something.
I installed WindowBlinds (I installed the male version of either StyleXP or WindowBlinds because the themes aimed at the female audience were too cutesy; oh, I checked, that was StyleXP) but then uninstalled it cause I didn’t like having “colliding” applications.
Live bugs bug me too but luckily I haven’t seen many of them around now that it’s getting more and more autumny and wintery each day. I’ve never seen a cockroach, but my pet peeve, horror, and whatnot is spiders (except the one in blue and red tights). Those give me the heebiejeebies. At work we have lots of tiny flies (now, there we’d probably could use a spider or two) and often they wander into my tea/coffee mug…
Poor Sullivan, using precious resources to implement an Anna Kournikova themed desktop. But I do use Object Desktop’s suite for it’s Bootskin (Escher’s Bond of Union) and LogonStudio (DooM3 terminal) programs. I believe WindowBlinds is a subset of this suite.
And it’s probably the only one I trust. Every other one was packaged with some other software. I can’t say if it’s malicious, I never let it past the EULA.
This has always provided some good ol’ desktop fun. I know it says “screensaver,” but only as an option if you’re into that sort of thing. Check the settings, plenty of things to customize.
I haven’t found a nice theme for WindowBlinds yet so I’m sticking with StyleXP. I don’t like themes that completely change everything, but I’m liking this (Watercolor), because it makes the candy XP toolbars/title bars flat.
If I find a nice purple/violet/lilac theme for WindowBlinds that keeps my Windows looking like Windows, I’ll use it.
K, do you know anything nasty about StyleXP?
Why would I want an Anna Kournikova theme? (Or was that such a clever joke I didn’t get it?)
I’ve been to the StyleXP site to browse for content, but I know nothing of the program. But I’ve not heard anything negative about WindowBlinds. I had it installed long ago, but only dropped it because it was a resource hog.
Also, if you haven’t already, you should check out DeviantArt. They might have something you’re looking for.
Better than the “cutesy” ones I suppose.
Have you picked up Indi… er, Fahrenheit? I don’t remember if I already said this, but it seems another reason for the name change is because they censored some things. Understandable that the publisher wouldn’t want any confusion between the two SKUs. I mean, can you imagine the damage it would cause for a young American to see the human body in naked form? Oh, the humanity!
Great game, though. Only played for a couple hours, but afterwards, I went to the kitchen (in reality) and thought, “Oh shit, what button is it to pick up the bread?”
Hmm.. have you come across this one before or heard anything from it? – http://www.wincustomize.com/
The skins there look great! Although I’ve just found the site hehe. Not sure if there are any flaws in the theme (ie: bugs). If anyone have been here and tried the theme(s), did you guys come across any viruses? o__O;
K, thanks for the DeviantArt link! I know of the site, but I didn’t know they had categories like that. I’ll have to flip those through.
I haven’t picked up Indigo. Don’t know if it’s come out in Finland yet… *searches* It apparently came out today. I’ll wait for a while (it’s 43 €).
Ehm, I need to admit my stupidity here… “SKU”?
Vera, yeah, I think I’ve stumbled across that site somewhere. Haven’t had time to browse it further but I will. Thanks!
Yay! I found the “Watercolor” theme as a WindowBlinds version (this one) — at least close AND with more colours (if they only work on this freeware version…)
Oh, no it’s not WindowBlinds. But it has more colours so I can use it on StyleXP!
Define: SKU – Stock Keeping Unit
Also, WinCustomize is the official site for WindowBlinds. If you click over to the Software section, you’ll see all associated programs. The Theme Manager controls all of them. According to their Terms of Service, they do not pre-screen content, but will remove any that is found to be malicious. Caveat emptor.
I don’t look into international currency all that much, but that’s so not fair! It’s only $40 (~33€) here. Extra for shipping and taxes and such?
Extra for just this being Finland Seriously though, it could be because of shipping etc.
I know about the define function on Google. Was quite useful when I was collecting vocabulary/definitions in the university project.
Hmm… to play Obscure or Silent Hill or Vampire or Deus Ex or Riddick? Or something totally different…?
