Land down under
This time next year I will be in Australia.
It’s weird to know that already but not be able to do much about it really. There are no flight schedules available yet and I have to double check how much information I’ll need for a visa application (possibly flight details). Hopefully I’m eligible for an ETA because I don’t want to mail (!!!) my precious passport to Berlin! I do have to get a new one — and photos for it, uhh — so there’s something to keep me occupied.
Yesterday I was browsing a little, checking the prices (ouch), flight times (gosh), and places where I’d need to change planes (yikes). It’s going to be wonderful, though, no matter the cost. I’ll be in Sydney for about 3 weeks. First for a friend’s wedding, then a week dog-sitting while the happy couple is on a honeymoon, and then a week doing touristy things.
I haven’t travelled abroad properly before. I was 4 days in Berlin with a school group (teacher + 4 students including myself) and “of course” I’ve been to Stockholm, Sweden quite a few times thanks to a childhood (onwards) friend and her mother’s job. Now, in addition to going very far I’ll be going by myself which is going to be stressful but I hope I’ll get back home in one piece (and I hope my luggage will, too).
For the whole story, see category Tourist of Oz.
Australia’s one of the places I’d love to visit. Of course we can’t afford it and if we ever could, we’d probably by 90 by then so who’d remember, so I’m envious.
Wow! That’s so cool! I’ve never made it that far myself, but Australia is definitely one of the places I’d eventually like to visit (since I even speak the language, apparently).
Just don’t schedule flight changes too tight and even the travel will be lots of fun. The big airports often have a lot to see, even just window shopping if you don’t feel like spending. Also, if you feel tired and have a longer wait (and you are not travelling first class), remember that the airport lounges sell day-memberships: you’ll be a lot more comfortable waiting in a lounge nibbling on snacks than sitting in the noisy corridoors. (But it is a good idea to ask to see the lounge before paying for entry — not all of them are that nice…)
I expect to see lots of photos here in about a year and one month…
And now all the other envious people can line up after Jafer and I…
From what I saw, the flight changes aren’t too tight. I’ll probably have a day (arrive in the morning, leave in the afternoon) to spend at an airport. I wonder if Finnair has plans to start direct flights to Sydney within a year…
Thanks for the lounge tip though, I’ll keep that in mind. Any travel tips are warmly welcomed since I’m such a rookie.
Oh! That’s nice =). Hope you have fun.. lol.. but that’s like next year xD but it’s okay. Remember! Don’t miss me ;D hehehe. Hm, travelling alone could be quite of an adventure . Remember to bring a camera and take loads of pictures =D I want to seeee!! Sydney =O! What a great place – the Opera House?! There goes the money$~
Way cool. Sounds like a nice vacation.
Good to have it all planned out, but things like that drive me crazy. If I make plans a week from now, it makes that week seem sooo long. Can’t imagine having a whole year to look forward to something. Then again, things like that make me anxious as well, so I guess it would balance out.
I’d wish you good luck, but you’re not leaving for a while. Does luck have a shelf life?
I’ll probably be so busy all year that I won’t even have time to get anxious because of the wait.
Add a few preservatives to the luck and it’ll be fine!
