Luck in King-size chunks
Today I met up with a friend for coffee and because we were in a bookstore I wanted to pop by the shelves with books by a certain author… There was nothing new in the paperbacks but when I went to the hardcover section I found an Illustrated Edition of ‘Salem’s Lot! I already have the story in paperback but I couldn’t not buy it and leave it there for all kinds of people with their filthy hands. It’s so pretty! Just look at it!
Invigorated by this I — just a moment ago — ordered On Writing and Tommyknockers. On Writing will hopefully be from the correct series (NEL).
But why oh why am I buying books just after returning 3 months’ worth of student allowance? To cheer myself up?
LOL. I guess you do have a love for books.. or perhaps for Steven King’s books? lol. Hmm
Both. I love Stephen King books and dictionaries the most. I bought a tiny “dictionary” (idioms, proverbs) on Saturday.
I know I told you a long time ago about how I became disenchanted with Stephen King, but I was at a store on the weekend and almost bought a book of his (I think it was called Cell or something like that).
I didn’t buy it only because I now buy my books at Costco (since they’re cheaper), but it had be tempted since I used to have all his books, including Salem’s Lot. However, when you mentioned it, I had a hard time remembering what it was about, although I think it was about vampires.
Cell is the newest book. I’ve only seen it as hardcover which is a bit too heavy to carry around. There doesn’t seem to be a paperback yet, so I’ll have to wait.
Yes, you told me about the book collection Salem’s Lot is about vampires (I don’t remember much about it though, I never remember anything about books, tv, or movies) and it’s nicely tied with the whole Dark Tower Saga plus e.g. Hearts in Atlantis (which is tied with DT saga). Everything is tied with the DT saga! That’s one of the things I love about King: he doesn’t make stuff up. It’s an actual imaginary universe (universes) he’s writing about more or less in every book.
Ooh, cool =p.
I think I have maybe 1 or 2 Stephan King books.. but they are old haha =).. now that you mention it.. but I hardly have the time to read.. maybe I’ll get around to it sometime..
I was supposed to wait for the paperback of Cell but I couldn’t… I bought it today – and started reading it on the way home.
lol, leave it to you, not waiting. And BTW, did you get that image replacement plugin working? I tried it again on another site, and made changes to the plugin that were suggested in that link you had, but it still didn’t work – just showed the ‘x’s where the images were supposed to be.
Yeah, I have the image plugin working on my local installation of the XF site I’m developing. Have you enabled the cache for the plugin? If you have, does the cache folder have adequate permissions? Can you see the images in the preview? How’s the weather?
I have the cache folder, don’t know what the permissions were supposed to be set at, and no, I couldn’t see any of the images in the preview.
And the weather is fantabulous here – like spring
The fact that the preview image doesn’t show up is an indication of a “deeper” problem. I remember reading about the different modules (GD or something like that) an image generation plugin needs, but I don’t find any such information on the site now. It was probably for another plugin… I’m out of ideas, now.
