Too smart
I have a Whirlpool washing machine that has “6th sense technology.” It’s supposed to be able to determine how full the machine is and then adjust the washing cycle, water etc. accordingly.
I don’t know if it’s doing a good job or not (in the 6th sense stuff; it does make clothes clean which is enough for me), but today I noticed it’s a bit too smart. Either that, or there’s someone living in my washing machine.
I put a small amount of clothes in the machine, including a small zipper bag with a clothing item in it. I zipped up the bag, of course.
After the cycle was done and I went to unload the machine, I noticed that the zipper bag was open — and empty. Whoever it was, they hadn’t stolen the item, so at least I don’t have one of those sock-stealing creatures in there.
I’ve also noticed they enjoy turning huge duvet covers inside out!
I always used to hurry to empty the washing machine when I was washing sheets. I was worried that the duvet cover would start digesting the pillow cases and the flat sheet that it would invariably eat (and yes, usually after inverting itself).
Then I started using a safety pin on the duvet cover, both in the washer and in the dryer. Now I get individual pieces of linen out of the machines, instead of a single huge tightly wound ball of cloth.
I assume the safety pin won’t cause the fabric to rip in the crazy merry-go-round of the machine? (Assuming, since if it did you probably wouldn’t do that…)
I have one duvet cover (and a pillowcase to match) that came with an anti-digestive system: a line of buttons on the open end. Very handy in use, too, since my blanket always tries to escape.
I’ve had no problems — both the safety pin and the duvet cover have come back unscathed from the washing machine as well as the dryer.
Whoa that sounds crazy! What kind of machine are you using?
It’s a pretty normal top-loading machine, I think. It’s just amazing what centrifugal force can do!
The machine just wanted to properly clean what was in the zipped bag – and it couldn’t do that while it was hidden in a bag now, could it?
